The winning design of the Design-a-Bus-Wrap student art contest, sponsored by Avery Dennison® Graphics Solutions, was revealed this month. The competition, open to middle and high school students in Lake County, Ohio, for the 2022-23 school year, saw Kaitlin Barninger, a senior at Mentor High School, claim the top prize for her entry titled, “Live Green, Live in Lake County.” Barninger’s winning design will grace one of the propane-powered Dial-a-Ride buses in Laketran’s fleet for a year.

For the third consecutive year, Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions, based in Lake County, generously donated the bus wrap material. The Premium MPI 1105 Easy Apply™ RS wrapping film, complemented by DOL 1360Z optically clear overlaminate, adorned the bus. Avery Dennison also contributed MPI 2528 50/50 perforated film for the bus window graphics. The printing and installation of these materials were expertly handled by Repros Color, an Akron, Ohio-based company.

Amanda Stefanik, Senior Marketing Communications Specialist at Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions, expressed the company’s delight in supporting Laketran and the Lake County community for the third consecutive year. She emphasized the joy of connecting with local leaders, schools, and students, promoting awareness of vinyl graphics’ creative potential among art students and instructors. Stefanik commended Kaitlin Barninger for showcasing the visual power and creativity of graphic vinyl film.

Avery Dennison’s generous donation included MPI 1105 Easy Apply™ RS wrapping film with DOL 1360Z overlaminate, while Repros Color handled the printing and installation. Carlos Caudillo, Repros Customer Support Representative, shared his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the transformation of a public transportation shuttle bus into a mobile billboard with a powerful message.

As a former graphic design student now working in the print industry, Caudillo highlighted the pleasure of participating as a judge and account manager for the project. He credited his company’s installers for their familiarity with Avery Dennison MPI 1105 Easy Apply wrapping film, noting its ease of use and effectiveness, particularly in shaping onto pronounced concave areas. Caudillo praised the material’s resilience under heat and stretching, distinguishing it from other vinyl cast wrapping films that may lose strength under similar conditions.
