Plaskolite LLC, a global leader in the manufacturing of engineering thermoplastics, has recently entered into an agreement to acquire a facility in Matamoros, Mexico, from Trinseo (NYSE: TSE), a specialty material solutions provider. This strategic acquisition encompasses the land, buildings, and equipment of the Matamoros facility, which specializes in the production of cell cast acrylic sheets. These sheets find applications in a diverse range of industries, including display, signage, construction, marine, and sanitary products.

The location of the acquired facility in Matamoros is deemed advantageous, enhancing Plaskolite’s ability to serve the North American market effectively. Additionally, this acquisition allows Plaskolite to expand its portfolio by offering a comprehensive suite of acrylic sheet technologies, including extruded, continuous cast, and cell cast. The Matamoros facility also complements Plaskolite’s existing cell cast operations at its Gerona, Spain facility.

Plaskolite will market its cell cast PMMA sheet under the brand name OPTIX® Cell Cast Sheet. This addition to its product lineup ensures that Plaskolite’s customers can benefit from customizable orders across the entire range of OPTIX Acrylic, TUFFAK® Polycarbonate, VIVAK® PETG, POLYGAL® MultiWall, and ABS sheet formulations.

Product shipments from the Matamoros plant are anticipated to commence in the second half of 2023.

Expressing enthusiasm about the acquisition, Ryan Schroeder, President, and CEO at Plaskolite, stated, “We look forward to expanding our North American footprint with the acquisition of this highly strategic facility. This facility will strengthen our product offering for our customers, who value an extensive range of manufacturing methods. We are excited to better serve our customers with this acquisition.”

Thomas Chadwick, Principal – Manufactured Products at Pritzker Private Capital, also shared his thoughts, saying, “The acquisition of the Matamoros facility represents a compelling opportunity for Plaskolite to expand its existing North American acrylic sheet business into new technologies and better serve existing customers. We are thrilled for the Plaskolite team and welcome the Matamoros team to the Plaskolite and PPC families.”

Situated on nearly eleven acres in Matamoros City, in the State of Tamaulipas, Mexico, Trinseo’s Matamoros facility is well-positioned for logistical efficiency.

The proposed transaction is on track to close in the next few weeks.
